Privacy Policy

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers onlineringsize.com and every page on it, operated by Online Ring Size (“we”, “us”). It describes what happens to information when you use the ring sizer, read the guides, or send us a message.

2. What we do not collect

We want to be specific rather than reassuring, because “we value your privacy” means nothing. The site does not:

• ask you to create an account, or accept one from anywhere else;
• show advertising, or contain affiliate or paid tracking links;
• run session recording, heatmaps, or scroll and mouse tracking;
• ask for your name, address, or payment details anywhere except the contact form, where you type them yourself;
• load fonts, images or stylesheets from any other company’s servers — everything the page needs to render is served from this domain;
• sell data about you, or share data about you with advertisers or data brokers.

Apart from the analytics tag described next, and the form relay in section 7, the site is a set of static files with no third-party requests — which you can confirm in your browser’s network inspector.

3. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count page views and see which pages people actually use, so we know what to improve. It is the only tracking script on the site, and it is worth being exact about it rather than hiding it behind a phrase like “we use cookies to improve your experience”.

Every page loads gtag.js from Google’s servers, and that script sets two first-party cookies in your browser, named _ga and_ga_<property>. They hold a randomly generated number, nothing else. Its only job is to let Google tell a returning visit apart from a new one; it is not your name, and it is not linked to any account.

For each page you open, Google receives:

• the address of the page and the page that referred you to it;
• an approximate location — typically country or city — that Google derives from your IP address;
• your device type, operating system, browser, language and screen size;
• that random identifier, and the time of the visit.

Google processes this on our behalf and shows us aggregate reports: how many people read the size chart last week, and which countries they were in. We cannot see individuals in it, and we never send it anything you typed or measured. Google holds the underlying event data for the retention period configured on the property and deletes it after that. Google’s own handling is governed by itsprivacy policy.

If you would rather not be counted, any of these works and none of them breaks the site: block cookies for this domain in your browser settings, use a tracking blocker or a browser that includes one, turn on “Do Not Track” in a browser that acts on it, or install Google’sopt-out add-on. The ring sizer runs entirely in your browser and works exactly the same with the analytics script blocked — nothing here is gated behind being measured.

4. Your measurements never leave your device

The ring sizer is a program that runs inside your browser. When you calibrate your screen, adjust a circle, or read off a size, that work happens on your device. No measurement, calibration value, finger size, or result is transmitted to us or to anyone else. There is no upload step, and there is nothing about your hands on our end to disclose, subpoena, breach, or delete. The analytics tag records that a page was opened; it cannot see what you measured on it.

5. What is stored on your own device

So you don’t have to start from scratch each visit, the site saves a few values in your browser’s local storage. This is separate from the analytics cookies above: local storage lives on your computer or phone, is never attached to a network request, and is not sent to us or to Google.

None of it identifies you. You can remove all of it at any time by clearing site data for this domain in your browser settings, or by using the sizer’s own “Start over” control, which deletes the saved calibration. Private or incognito browsing discards it when you close the window. If storage is blocked, the sizer still works — it just won’t remember your calibration.

6. Your language and device

Your browser tells every website it visits which languages you prefer and how large your screen is; this is a normal part of how the web works, not something we install. We read those values in your browser to suggest a language and to offer a starting screen scale for recognised device models. They are used on your device, in the moment, and are not recorded or sent anywhere.

7. When you send us a message

The contact form is the one place where you deliberately give us information. When you submit it, the name, email address, topic and message you typed are transmitted so we can read and answer them.

Because this site is static and has no mail server of its own, the submission is passed through a third-party form relay (Web3Forms), which forwards it to our inbox. That provider processes what you submitted in order to deliver it, under its own privacy policy. We use your address to reply to you and for nothing else: no mailing list, no marketing, and no passing it on. Correspondence is kept only as long as it is useful for handling your query.

Please don’t put anything sensitive in the message box. It is an email form, not a secure channel.

8. Hosting and server logs

The pages have to be delivered to you by a hosting provider, and like essentially every web server, ours records standard request logs — typically the IP address that made the request, the time, the page asked for, and the browser’s user-agent string. These exist for security and reliability (spotting abuse and outages) and are handled by the hosting provider under its own terms. We do not use them to build profiles, and we do not combine them with anything else on this site, because there is nothing else to combine them with.

9. Children

This is a measuring tool with no accounts, so we hold nothing that identifies anyone, including children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the contact form is the only place any personal information can be submitted at all. The analytics described in section 3 count page views and cannot tell us the age of the person reading.

10. Your rights

Data protection law — including the GDPR in the EU and UK — gives you rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, and object to the processing of your personal data, and to complain to your national supervisory authority.

In practice these rights are straightforward to exercise here, because there is very little to exercise them against. The only personal data we hold directly is a message you chose to send us — ask us to delete your correspondence and we will. The analytics data is a random identifier and an approximate location held by Google on our behalf, with no name attached; clearing the cookies for this domain severs the link to your browser, and section 3 lists the ways to stop it being collected at all. Everything else the site saves is on your device, under your control, and removable by clearing your browser data — we could not access it if we wanted to.

11. Changes to this policy

If the site changes in a way that affects this policy — analytics, advertising, or any feature that sends data to a server — this page will be updated before that change goes live, and the date at the top will change with it. We won’t quietly start collecting something and amend the policy afterwards.
