India
Ring sizes in India.
Indian jewellers work on a numeric scale broadly equivalent to the Japanese one, running from about 1 to 30. Workshop scales do vary regionally, so it is worth quoting the inside diameter in millimetres alongside the number.
- The number means
- Integer scale equivalent to the Japanese 号数 scale
- Written as
- a whole number, usually between 8 and 24
Worth knowing: Indian jewellers broadly follow the Japanese-equivalent numbering, but workshop scales vary regionally. Quote the millimetre diameter alongside the number.

Buying from abroad
If you’re ordering from a retailer that uses a different scale, don’t translate the size yourself and hope. Send them the inside diameter in millimetres — every workshop in the world can work from that, and it removes the rounding step where errors creep in.
The reason is that the scales have different step sizes. A whole size in one system rarely lands exactly on a whole size elsewhere, so somebody has to round. Better that it’s the jeweller holding your measurement than a chart guessing at it.
