France

Ring sizes in France.

French sizes are normally quoted as the full ISO inside circumference in millimetres. A minority of retailers still use an older form that subtracts 40, so a “taille 12” may mean the same ring as a “taille 52” — worth confirming before you order.

The number means
Size = inside circumference in millimetres
Written as
a two-digit number — “taille cinquante-deux”

Worth knowing: French retailers usually quote the full ISO circumference (e.g. taille 52). A minority still use the older “circumference − 40” form — that value is the Italy/Spain/Switzerland column. Check which one your jeweller means.

Buying from abroad

If you’re ordering from a retailer that uses a different scale, don’t translate the size yourself and hope. Send them the inside diameter in millimetres — every workshop in the world can work from that, and it removes the rounding step where errors creep in.

The reason is that the scales have different step sizes. A whole size in one system rarely lands exactly on a whole size elsewhere, so somebody has to round. Better that it’s the jeweller holding your measurement than a chart guessing at it.
